My goals for myself range from a short-term goal, to a long term goal. I feel as if allocating goals to myself will allow me to have something to strive toward. I intend to complete my short-term goal within the next 2-3 years, and my long-term within 5-7 years.
Let’s start with the short-term goal. Within the next two to three years, I plan to be at least A+ and Network+ certified. This will allow me to have a few standard certifications under my belt for acquiring a job. After that, I plan on then moving on the CCNA (Cisco) certification, to allow me to work in a more network-based environment. I’d like to work in a small computer repair based environment, allowing me to gain more experience with things like printers, and other peripherals not necessarily related directly to the machine, or the operating system.
Within the next five to seven years, I plan on having a job that allows me to live comfortably. Ideally, I’d like to work in a small to medium sized school, or a small to medium sized office. I’d like to have completed the Information Technology field at WNCC, then moving onto another program at a different institute for a more concentrated degree, if necessary. I don’t necessarily plan on making six-digit figures, but I’d like to allow myself (and possibly my family) to live comfortably.
During my college career I also plan on joining a band located in the panhandle area. I play drums, and am very interested in music – mainly blues and classic rock (60s/70s). I’ve played various sessions with local artists, but have never been in a “working” band. Of course, this would allow a bit more income, but I’d play in a band even if I weren’t getting paid. Music has been something I’ve taken a large interest in, since I started playing percussion in fourth grade.
I am very interested in broadcasting, particularly radio broadcasting. I was the host, and panel member on various podcasts related to technology for roughly three years. I then realized I was getting nowhere in this day of flooded social networks. I still retain my love for radio, and hope to work in a radio station at least once in my life.
As you can see, my goals and interests are very concrete and achievable within the time I’ve allotted for them. College is the first step to achieving my goals, and I greatly appreciate your consideration of my application. I also look forward to hopefully attending your institute!
